Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Chikugo Yanagawa ju Hisahiro 筑後柳河住久廣 NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON TOKEN Certificate
信濃守武藤久廣 (Hisahiro) was a swordsmith of the 同田貫末流 (Dotanuki school), who studied under 同田貫宗廣 (Dotanuki Muneyasu). He served as the official swordsmith for the 柳河 (柳川)藩 (Yanagawa Domain) under the 立花家 (Tachibana family). His craftsmanship has been passed down and is still carried on by modern swordsmiths active in 福岡県 (Fukuoka Prefecture).
The blade has a well-balanced difference in width between the base and 切先 (kissaki), with a slightly extended 切先 (kissaki). The 地鉄 (jigane) is well-forged with a mix of 杢 (mokume) and 小板目肌 (ko-itame hada), showing a tight grain. The 刃文 (hamon) is a bright and clear 直刃 (suguha) with a base of 小沸 (ko-nie), featuring frequent 足 (ashi) and forming a small 乱れ (midare). The blade is well-hardened, appealing to experts. The 鋩子 (boshi) is straight with a rounded return.
This piece fully demonstrates the skill of 久廣 (Hisahiro) as a swordsmith active in the 柳河藩 (Yanagawa Domain).
Bare weight: 871 grams.
