Authentic Nihontō Japanese Sword Katana Signed by Yoshu Matsuyama ju Oda Muneyoshi 豫州松山住小田宗吉作 NBTHK TOKUBETSU HOZON TOKEN Certificate
Muneyoshi was a swordsmith from Matsuyama in Iyo Province, who wielded his hammer from the Keio era to the early Meiji period. Due to the Haitorei Edict and other historical circumstances, very few of his works have survived, making them extremely rare and valuable.
This sword features a sharp construction with a distinct difference in width from the base to the tip and an extended kissaki. The kitae (forging pattern) is a well-forged ko-itame hada, tightly packed with ji-nie and some slight hada, incorporating chikei. The hamon is a bright suguha mixed with gunome-ashi, and displays dark kinsuji. The boshi is shallowly undulating and ends in a large round return. The moderately curved shape of the blade gives it an elegant appearance despite its sharpness.
Dated Kaei 7, November 27, this sword is especially rare and valuable among the few surviving works of Muneyoshi, since the era name changed to Ansei shortly after.
We have performed high-quality polishing and newly crafted a Shirasaya Case for this sword at our shop. Enjoy the fresh, polished brilliance of this fine blade to the fullest.
