Kobuse Steel Folded Forged Katana Blade
Kobuse Folded Forged Katana Blade | Clay Tempered | Mirror Polish | Masame Hada
This katana blade is forged in the traditional Kobuse (wrapped core) construction, where a hard steel edge is wrapped around a softer, more flexible core. This method, historically used in high-quality Japanese swords, provides both a razor-sharp cutting edge and excellent shock absorption. The use of folded high carbon steel produces a distinctive masame-hada (straight grain pattern), highlighting the artistry of hand forging.
The blade undergoes clay tempering (differential hardening), resulting in a hardened edge and a resilient spine for the perfect balance of sharpness and durability. The polishing is performed with precision: the edge area (ji) is finished to a misty white surface, while the shinogi-ji (ridge surface) is polished to a mirror shine. This contrast beautifully accentuates the hamon line as it flows elegantly along the blade. The cutting edge is razor-sharp, capable of delivering clean and precise cuts.
Customization options are available to suit your preference:
-
Bohi (groove): With or without bohi
-
Hamon (temper line): Straight hamon or wave hamon
In addition to katana-sized blades, wakizashi and tanto sizes can also be custom-made. You can also add a Shirasaya, a plain wooden mount used for storage and preservation. For more details, please contact us directly.
