The blade undergoes clay tempering (differential hardening), resulting in a hardened edge and a resilient spine for the perfect balance of sharpness and durability. The polishing is performed with precision: the edge area (ji) is finished to a misty white surface, while the shinogi-ji (ridge surface) is polished to a mirror shine.
