Sanmai Steel Folded Forged Katana Blade
Sanmai Folded Forged Katana Blade | Clay Tempered | Mirror Polish | Masame Hada
This katana blade is forged in the traditional Sanmai (three-layer) construction, with a hard steel core for cutting power sandwiched between softer folded outer layers for resilience. The forging process produces a distinctive masame-hada (straight grain pattern) on the surface, giving the blade both strength and refined beauty.
The blade undergoes clay tempering (differential hardening), resulting in a hardened edge with a flexible spine for an ideal balance of sharpness and toughness. Polishing is performed with precision: the edge area (ji) is refined to a misty white finish, while the shinogi-ji (ridge surface) is polished to a mirror shine. This contrast highlights a striking hamon line that flows elegantly along the blade. The edge is razor-sharp, capable of clean and precise cuts.
Customization options are available to suit your preference:
-
Bohi (groove): With or without bohi
-
Hamon (temper line): Straight hamon or wave hamon
In addition to katana-sized blades, wakizashi and tanto sizes can also be custom-made. You can also add a Shirasaya, a plain wooden mount used for storage and preservation. For more details, please contact us directly.
